Local singing sensation, Emma Hale, popped in to the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow today to show her support for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Big Build Appeal and to entertain patients, their families, staff and volunteers.
Emma dropped in to the hospice’s Day Services Department and performed for around 20 patients. This is just the beginning of Emma Hale’s quest to raise as much money as possible for the Big Build Appeal, which will build a much needed new Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow.
The 16 year old rising star said: “I am so pleased I can use my talent to help others. I love music and performing, and to be able to fundraise for such a worthwhile cause whilst doing both is fantastic. I really hope I can raise a lot of money for the Big Build Appeal, there is still a lot to raise and I am determined to help in any way I can.”
Emma is taking her fundraising efforts to the next stage by organising a concert at the city’s Oran Mor on Great Western Road. ‘An Evening with Emma Hale and the David Farrell Jazz Orchestra’ will take place on Sunday 19th October. It will be an evening filled with jazz and blues numbers, entertaining guests with big band sounds and swinging tunes, whilst raising much needed funds for Glasgow’s Big Build Appeal.
The Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow has provided services to people with cancer for over 32 years. The hospice has cared for many patients over the years and has provided both medical and emotional support to them and their families.
Sadly the building is now showing its age and a new modern facility is urgently needed. The Big Build Appeal needs to raise over £16 million to build this new hospice and all of the money raised at Emma Hale’s concert will help contribute towards this total.
Gemma McDonald, Capital Appeal Fundraiser at Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “It is fantastic to have Emma’s support for the Big Build Appeal. It is inspirational to see someone so young and talented organising such a big fundraiser. After seeing Emma’s performance at the hospice we know it will be a great night and will be a massive boost for our fundraising target.”
Tickets are £10 each and can be purchased from the Oran Mor, www.ticketweb.co.uk or by calling 08444 77 1000.

Notes to editors:
Marie Curie Cancer Care has two hospices in Scotland, one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow. Through the hospices, they offer specialist end of life care for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families. The hospices provide a combination of day services, in-patient care, care in the home, social, spiritual and family support and bereavement support.
Marie Curie Hospices actively promote quality of life for people with cancer and other illnesses and provide support for their families, completely free.
The current Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow has served the needs of cancer patients throughout the city and surrounding area for over 30 years, treating many patients and their families. A new, modern hospice is urgently needed to continue this care provision, support, dignity and relief to patients and their families in Glasgow.
The new building is currently being built near the existing hospice in Glasgow and will offer 21 individual rooms with en-suite bathrooms, 3 shared rooms, piped oxygen and easier outdoor access.
A successful ‘Big Build Appeal’ will ensure the continued provision of quality end of life and terminal cancer care for the future.
