Capital Date for Yoga Master’s Key Scottish Appearance
One of the world’s leading yog (or yoga) experts and exponents, Swami Ramdev, is to stage a special free open air session in the magnificent setting of Princes Street Gardens on Tuesday, August 12.
Swami Ramdev is one of the founders of the Divya Yoga Mandir Trust, which works to promote good health, physical and spiritual, and has brought the benefits of yog to countless millions across the world.
His return to Scotland following last year’s hugely successful mass tuition sessions is again set to be a highlight of his UK summer programme.
This year’s Edinburgh event, to be staged at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens from 11.30am to 1.30pm, beneath the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, is sponsored by health and spiritual channel Aastha TV (free to air on Sky Channel 807); and by Nature and Herbs (www.natureandherbs.co.uk), founded by Scotland-based entrepreneur Arti Poddar, to promote wellbeing through Ayurvedic herbal care and exercise techniques.
In Swami Ramdev’s itinerary this summer, meanwhile, the Patanjali Yog Peeth (UK) Trust, which works tirelessly to promote yog in Scotland and across Britain, is again set to play an important role.
Trustee Sunita Poddar said: “Everyone who participated in and enjoyed Swami Ramdev Ji’s memorable visit to Scotland in 2007 will be delighted he has returned – I’m sure his audience will be at least as receptive this time around.
“His is a truly international ambition, to spread the benefits of yog to as wide an audience as possible.”
She added: “The benefits of yog are steadily becoming more widely understood, and there is no shortage of people in the UK keen to develop techniques which can have such an important bearing on one’s spiritual and physical health.”
If practised regularly and efficiently key benefits can include reduced stress levels, improved circulation, healthier joints, enhanced strength, agility and body tone, weight regulation, boosted immune and digestive system, as well as enhanced energy, concentration and flexibility.
Swami Ramdev also has a Glasgow date, on Monday, August 11 at Lochinch Police Club in Pollok Country Park (10am to noon), where there will be also be an open air yog session and opportunity to receive free health advice from qualified Ayurvedic practitioners.
