Players from all over the world will be invited to tee off in Scotland’s most unusual and enjoyable round of golf from early next year thanks to the brainstorming energies at Glasgow-based destination management company, Hello Scotland
The Highland Cross Golf Challenge, as the new incentive is known, is the brainchild of Hello Scotland’s founder, Bill Thomson. And the company has already signed up Glengoyne Distillery, together with its overseas ambassadors and marketing executives, to be its first client to take on this unique challenge.
Set against the backdrop of the stunning 720 square mile Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, Highland Cross players will travel throughout the majestic countryside, playing a version of golf they will never have seen or even dreamt about.
While each hole will have its own individual name, as is usual on a more traditional course, each will be dynamic and challenging, providing a truly diverse range of golfing experiences, though critically, suited to clients’ budgets. Here are just some of those players might face when they elect to take the Highland Challenge:
‘Flying High’, will see players taken on a short helicopter flight to a strategic highpoint, from where the highest shot of the day will have to be played.
‘The Long Yin’, will be a longest drive competition hit from the roof of a Land Rover parked at the top of an off-road track overlooking the glen below.
“The idea is to create something truly memorable that anybody can enjoy,” says Bill. Players can travel between holes in a fleet of magnificent classic cars, including Jaguar E Types, Triumph TR6s and MGs, or a fleet of Land Rovers with kilted caddies/chauffeurs.
To add to the sense of adventure, players will have to navigate their own way with the aid of both maps and hand held GPS units, as they journey through the bewitching scenery.
Iain Weir, Marketing Director for Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Whisky said, "We wanted something truly unique and utterly memorable for our VIP global distributors. Golf is traditionally Scottish and therefore fits very well with the history and heritage surrounding Glengoyne Scotch Whisky. Moreover, the opportunity to add a new dimension to a round of golf will make it accessible, surprising and fun to both players and non-players alike. Above all, it will allow our customers to experience the fantastic Loch Lomond and Trossachs scenery that surrounds Glengoyne 'Scotland's Most Beautiful Distillery' and get a better understanding of how our distillery enjoys and benefits from its stunning location."
Hello Scotland specialises in organising tailored corporate incentive trips to Scotland, providing clients with highly inventive programmes designed to show off the best of Scotland’s unrivalled hospitality, heritage and culture in the most engaging and exciting way possible.
Highland Cross will be woven into the fabric of Hello Scotland’s other indoor and outdoor events including historic visits, field activities and gastronomic experiences, that all come with their own twist.
Said Bill Thomson: “The emphasis is on having fun and if we can use Highland Cross to show our clients some of the incredible scenery in this part of the country, serve up a few surprises en route and allow them to have a great time doing it, then we will have succeeded.”
Surprises may include an unexpected whisky ‘nosing’ or a butler serving up tea and scones along the way but whatever happens, players can be sure there is not a more beautiful or more exciting golf course in all of the British Isles.
