Go WEST This Oktoberfest
Lovers of great beer and music should go WEST to Glasgow Green this Oktoberfest. That’s because WEST Brewery, Bar & Restaurant is playing host to its very own Bavarian Oktoberfest in its beer hall on Glasgow Green from 3 to 12 October 2008.
WEST is the first UK brewery to produce all of its beers in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, known as the German Purity Law. This means that it uses only the four core ingredients of water, malt, hops and yeast in brewing all its beers, adding no artificial additives, colouring or preservatives.
Based in the iconic Templeton Building at Glasgow Green, WEST produces a full range of beers, from cool, crisp lagers, through to clean-tasting wheat beers and a full range of unique and seasonal styles.
And its 2008 WEST Oktoberfestbier, available on draught in its beer cellar, promises to be the brewery’s very best Oktoberfest lager to date!
German brewery owner Petra Wetzel said, “We brew a new O-Fest beer every year and this year we’ve created a top-fermented beer, with a crisp palette to give beer lovers something to celebrate and forget all about the credit crunch!”
In addition to its Oktoberfestbier, revellers can sample: Helles, WEST’s signature Munich-style lager beer; Hefeweizen, in the style of a northern Bavarian wheat beer; Hefedunkel, a dark wheat beer; Dunkel, a special blend of five malts hopped for added bite or St Mungo, WEST’s homage to Glasgow’s patron saint and fellow brewer. Mungo is a clean and crisp amber-coloured lager beer with a distinctive malt sweetness and subtle hop bitterness.
And this year’s Oktoberfest at WEST features an eclectic line-up of free music events, encompassing everything from Scottish indie pop, New York style Jazz, Celtic folk to the absolutely vital Bavarian oompha music.
WEST Brewery, Bar & Restaurant is open seven days a week, 11am till 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight Friday and Saturday.
