Region : Inverness/Nairn

One of Scotland’s most successful business leaders, Sir Tom Farmer, is to share with local entrepreneurs his experience of doing business in the Highlands.

Sir Tom is speaking at Inverness’s Eden Court theatre on Thursday (the 9th), as a guest of Nation1, a Scottish company that specialises in growing brand awareness for their clients, online.

Says Nation1 managing director, Andrew Grant, who was brought up in Invergordon and is based in Glasgow: “Our company is about growth and there are few Scottish entrepreneurs to rival Sir Tom Farmer when it comes to growing a company. And he’ll be speaking particularly about the Highland economy.”

Farmer rose to fame after founding the Kwik-Fit tyre and exhausts company in 1971, which he sold to Ford, in 1999, for £1.2 billion. Chairing Sir Tom’s presentation will be David Sutherland, chair of the Tulloch Group.

Notes to Editor:

Sir Tom Farmer is speaking at the Eden Court theatre, Inverness, on Thursday, October 9, between 1220 and 1300. Between 1300 and 1330, he will be taking part in a Q&A session, chaired by David Sutherland, chair of the Tulloch Group.

You are invited to send a reporter or photographer to the event, by contacting Liz Howells on 0870 756 8600 or 07980 511 452 or by email at: liz.howells@nation1.co.uk

Liz can also email jpeg photographs of Sir Tom with Andrew Grant, from the event.

The Eden Court theatre is located on Bishops Road, Inverness, IV3 5SA.

Nation1 is a Glasgow-based consultancy that provides creative and strategic advice on how best to promote a brand, online.

Digital marketing is at Nation1’s core - although it can source other forms of marketing, such as print advertising, and related services, such as public relations, in support of a brand development brief.

For clients, the attraction of opting for digital marketing is the transparency of traffic figures. There is no hiding from what the online statistics say, including any service take-up rates.

Nation1 was founded by Andrew Grant in 2000, whose marketing career began by handing out flyers on the streets of Glasgow, on behalf of a pubs chain. Grant was born and brought up in Invergordon. He is aged 32 and is considered one of Scotland’s leading digital marketing experts.

It now boasts 18 staff, among them a digital director, copywriters, strategic marketing consultants, and designers.

Plans are in the pipeline to open a London office next year, followed by divisions in India and China - in 2010 and 2012, followed by a Stock Market flotation.

Andrew Grant can be contacted on 0870 756 8601 or 07714 760 651.
