Chiropractor Recognised as Tayside's Top Young Entrepreneur
Cade Sutherland, owner Dundee Chiropractic Ltd has been named Tayside’s top young entrepreneur after winning a prestigious PSYBT business award and a cash boost of £1000.
Cade beat the business talents of Tayside’s best young start ups to win the regional final of the 2008 Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
26 year old Australian, Cade Sutherland, formed Dundee Chiropractic in February 2007 to provide sports injury management, chronic musculoskeletal management, family orientated proactive healthcare and occupational injury rehabilitation. The company has premises in Dundee and in Fife with plans underway to open a third clinic. The multi-award winning Chiropractor credits his success to the clinic’s wellness approach to healthcare rather than simply focusing on immediate pain reduction. Cade also initiated a skilful marketing strategy involving screenings at the local mall and local advertising, but above all acknowledges that success rests on the recommendations of plenty of very satisfied customers.
The award ceremony took place on September 19th at the premises of sponsor’s GA Engineering (Scotland) Ltd where Gordon Deuchars, himself a former recipient of PSYBT support, presented Cade Sutherland with a cheque for £1000. Dundee Chiropractic will now be considered by the judging panel to go forward for the national final taking place in Glasgow’s Barony Hall on Monday 17th November 2008, with the support of Microsoft. Six of the 18 regional winners will be selected to compete for the coveted national title of this year’s Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and the opportunity to win an additional £2000.
The runner-up in the awards is Claire Smith of Caledonian Gifts who produces a range of Scottish themed gift hampers for all occasions. Caledonian Gifts was a result of the rollout of a Young Enterprise Scotland school project for which Claire gave up her university place to pursue. In 2006 she won Sunday Mail Young Scot Award for Enterprise and this year was awarded a place on Sir Tom Hunter’s new scheme to develop the future leaders of Scotland. Claire received a cash boost of £500, sponsored by Dundee City Council.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, the PSYBT regional manager, Catherine Ward said “These young entrepreneurs represent some of the most talented, creative and dedicated business people in Scotland today and we are delighted to be able to recognise and reward their achievements through these awards. They should act as a true inspiration for us all in terms of demonstrating commitment, self belief and determination to not only take the first brave steps into working for themselves but to go on and create successful and sustainable businesses that contribute to Scotland’s economic future.”
Gordon Deuchars, Managing Director, of G A Engineering added "We are delighted to support the work of PSYBT in recognising young entrepreneurs. Awards like these are essential in terms of celebrating the achievements of Scotland's young people and encouraging an environment that values business innovation. We have seen a high number of new starts this year in Tayside, particularly in the key industrial sectors of digital media and tourism and it is wonderful to be working with PSYBT to launch the new search for some of Scotland's best young entrepreneurs. Not so many years ago I was very fortunate to win a PSYBT Award and I am delighted to be able to put something back into the charity after the fantastic support they have given me over the years."
