Edinburgh Festival Journalism Awards Announce Shortlist

An arts journalism prize honouring a former Scotsman newspaper journalist, and recognising young writers covering the Edinburgh Festival, has unveiled its shortlist.

The Allen Wright Awards comprise two categories and are open to writers aged 30 or under. Say the awards organisers, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society: “As arts editor of The Scotsman for thirty years, Allen Wright was a passionate supporter of the Fringe and a great encourager of young talent.

“The Fringe First Awards, which he founded, are to this day a major institution and point of highest prestige for its recipients. Similarly, the Allen Wright Award – the only official award handed out by the Fringe Society – honours his ideals and continues his contribution to the festival he loved.”

The Allen Wright Awards were founded in 1998. Up for grabs is £750 in each category.
