AN East Lothian journalist has been unable to progress to the final of the long-established BBC quiz programme, Mastermind.
But Gavin McEwan ran his fellow semi-finalists close, his achievement all the more remarkable since his specialist subject round – the Life and Music of Burt Bacharach – yielded only six points.
But a strong general knowledge round pushed his final score to 21 – just four behind the winner.
