Documentaries Competition Issues Call for Entries

A competition run by the Scottish Documentary Institute is inviting entries for its ninth annual competition.

While previous versions of the Bridging the Gap competition have been based on a theme, this year's version is not, and entries are being invited by the 14th of next month.

The competition is open to Scotland-based documentary filmmakers and the four shortlisted entries will be each awarded £8,000 to make a short film, plus in-kind production, post-production and distribution support, as well as training opportunities.

The initiative will also present a series of public documentary masterclasses in Edinburgh, highlights of which will be available online for the benefit of the wider filmmaking community.

Says Noe Mendelle, director of Scottish Documentary Institute: “We have an incredible eight years of short documentaries behind us – they have delighted audiences across the world from Abu Dhabi to Indonesia, New York to Zagreb. We’re excited to see what stories will come our way this year and how they will travel.”
