McCauley moves across the airwaves

THE Glasgow-based radio station formerly known as Saga – and now known as 105.2 Smooth Radio – has lured one of the best-known voices in the city, as its new breakfast show host.

John McCauley is moving from Clyde 2 to Smooth, which officially relaunches next Monday under its new brand.

McCauley has been hosting a mid-morning slot on Clyde 2 for 15 years. His radio career began 26 years ago, at West Sound, in Ayrshire. Smooth is aimed at older adults, with a broad mix of easy listening music from the last five decades – from Abba to The Beatles and Rod Stewart to The Carpenters.

Dave Marshall will continue to host the mid morning show (10am-1pm) while Gerry Burke moves from evenings to afternoons (1pm-4pm). Bryce Curdy will move from afternoons to the Drivetime show (4-8pm) and John Darroch will host the evening show (8pm-12am) moving from his current late night slot.

Jackie Storrar joins the weekend line-up to host a new Sunday afternoon 70s show (1pm-4pm). An experienced presenter, Jackie is also a singer and is currently recording an album. A new soul music show, hosted by Mike Marwick, will feature in the Saturday evening schedule and replaces the current Friday night soul programme.

Says head of presentation, Gerry Burke: “Smooth Radio will be a vibrant station with entertaining presenters targeted at the baby boomer generation in Glasgow and beyond. The music will be a mix of easy listening classics both from our listener’s youth and recent years.”
