‘Big Apple’ beckons for quartet of Clyde shows

AN international radio awards competition has chosen seven Scottish programmes – four from Radio Clyde – among its shortlist for this year’s prizes.

The New York Radio Awards seek to “recognise the world’s best work in radio programming and promotion”. Its blurb continues: “Entries are judged by panels of radio experts from stations and companies throughout the world for their production values, organisation, presentation of information, creativity and use of the medium.”

Of the four Radio Clyde nominations, one was for a programme about the city’s music history, presented by well-known music critic, Billy Sloan.

The Scottish nominations are:

Darren Adam, of FORTH2, nominated in the ‘Best Personality, Local Market’ category; Cash for Kids, Radio Clyde, ‘Community Service’; Gina’s Late Call, Radio Clyde, ‘Talk Programme, Host Driven’; Glasgow Rocks!, Radio Clyde, ‘Best Music Special’; The Great Scottish Run, Radio Clyde, ‘Best Special Event’; Thought for the Day, West FM & West Sound, ‘Religious Programmes’; and West Action – Meningitis Awareness, West FM and West Sound, ‘Health/Medical’.

The winners are announced on the 28th of next month. The radio competition is part of a ‘festival’ of award ceremonies that also includes the likes of advertising and TV broadcasting.
