Station the talk of newsrooms

IT’S been quite a week for Edinburgh speech radio station, talk107, following a couple of exclusive stories that have broken on their airwaves.

Last Friday came the bombshell that former First Minister, Jack McConnell, had already turned down one Westminster move to do a deal that would remove Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi from his Greenock prison.

McConnell told talk107 that he had already been approached by officials in London and made it clear he would not agree to transferring Al-Megrahi back to Libya.

The audio clip was picked up by Radio Four’s The World at One – following a row between Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and McConnell’s successor, Alex Salmond, over new UK plans that could see Al-Megrahi transferred home.

It was then carried by BBC Scotland’s Reporting Scotland and stv’s Scotland Today, complete with talk107 logos.

Then on Wednesday, ITV’s Network News picked up on an interview by programme director, Mike Graham, with a convicted paedophile – as reported on allmediascotland.com last Thursday. It ran audio clips at lunchtime and in the evening.
