Pupils ‘raid’ rival radio station

A GROUP of young radio broadcasters took to the sea to take over the airwaves of a neighbouring radio station.

School pupils from Gairloch, in Wester Ross, boarded a high-speed offshore inflatable boat to make their way to Portree, on the Isle of Skye, which is 28 miles away and home to commercial radio station, Cuillin FM.

Had they travelled by road, it would have been a 100-mile journey. And once in Portree, they presented a show, which was broadcast simultaneously on their home station, Two Lochs Radio.

Cuillin FM and Two Lochs Radio are two of the smallest independent radio stations in the UK. Although fully commercially licensed for the last five years, both stations are operated on a not-for-profit basis for community benefit.
