The loneliness of the long-distance runner

THE ‘joys’ of running a long-distance race has been captured by BBC Radio Scotland, for a documentary being broadcast tomorrow.

‘Fast Talkers’ comprises eight runners – who took part in last month’s Great Edinburgh Run – each mic’ed up, to provide continuous commentary on their progress throughout the run.

BBC Radio Scotland presenter, Bryan Burnett, ran the course and also carried a microphone and recording kit along the way.

He said: “It’s an unique opportunity to get inside the head of 10k runners. Each of our ‘fast talkers’ tells a different story of the race and it makes for a compelling radio programme.

“I have presented programmes in some pretty unusual situations, but running breathlessly around the streets of Edinburgh in a vest was a first for me.”

It is being transmitted at 12.35pm.
