Management lining up buy-out of Edinburgh radio station

EDINBURGH radio station, talk107, may be sold to a management buy-out, its owners have revealed.

After announcing, in October, that the station was up for sale, it has now emerged that UTV are in negotiations with senior station director, Matt Allitt, about a possible purchase.

The station was launched in February two years ago – as the UK’s only local FM commercial speech radio station outside of London.

But it has been running at a loss, on the back of modest listening figures. It is understood Allitt is being backed by a group of local business people.

Says UTV: “Both UTV Radio (GB) and Matt Allitt are working to conclude the deal before Christmas, securing the future of the station under new, independent ownership.”
