Cryans Transfers to Top Law Firm

One of the most senior figures in the Scottish comms and marketing sector has been appointed at a leading legal and asset management firm.

Martin Cryans has been taken on director of marketing and communications at Turcan Connell, joining from Firefly Communications where he was its Scotland director. Well known as an assistant referee in the upper echelons of Scottish football, Cryans is also a fomer Glasgow managing director of Beattie Communications.

He succeeds Louise Keane, who is returning to her native Dublin after three years with the firm.

In a statement issued by Turcan Connell, Cryans is quoted, saying: “I’m delighted to be joining Turcan Connell at such an exciting point in its development. Over the past 13 years the firm has quickly grown to become a top 100 UK law firm, the leading private client firm in Scotland and a significant provider of wealth management advice throughout Britain. I aim to build on the success achieved to date as the firm continues to increase its reach in key sectors.”

Meanwhile, The Drum media and marketing website quotes Claire Walker, founder of Firefly, saying: “As the market has changed we have bought the London and Edinburgh offices more closely together as a joint UK cost centres albeit in different capital cities.”

Firefly has been based in Edinburgh for ten years.

She is further quoted, saying: “Whilst it is tough market we are 100 per cent committed to stay [in Scotland]. Our Scottish clients are either very consumery or very corporate/B2B-oriented so we have chosen to broaden our capability by bringing in two people with very different specialist and complimentary skills to help build our Scottish business.

“As of February this year Pauline Gregory has been our head of consumer brands in Scotland, leading our Subway Scotland team amongst other project clients and also inputting to London-based consumer clients. And Lisa Mennie is heading our Scottish corporate/B2B team representing accountancy firm Mazars Scotland, financial services body Origo and other Scottish B2B clients like Edinburgh Napier University whom we represent on a project basis.

“Likewise, Lisa is also a great help on our London corporate clients too. Both Lisa and Pauline are part-time at Firefly as they have other clients in their portfolio through their joint PR consultancy Skylark which is based in Glasgow.”
