Former PR Supremo Launches Search for Answer to her Next Book

A former SNP and BBC press officer is launching a writing competition aimed at school children.

Lari Don, a PR-turned-children’s author, is asking primary school pupils to suggest a real-lfe Scottish location for her final book of an award-winning series, First Aid for Fairies.

Don, who left politics and journalism to pursue family life 12 years ago, says that her previous experience allowed her to keep to deadlines, resulting in the release of her eighth book in just over three years.

She told allmediascotland: “I have no idea what locations will be suggested, but I have commited myself to use one anyway, and I will have started writing the book before the competition finishes, so I’ll be writing the opening chapters with no idea where the journey will end.”

She added: “I was the SNP press officer in the days before devolution and government, when it was a one or two-person operation, sleeping on floors to run by-election campaigns. I then left to work as a researcher, producer and press officer at the BBC.”

Don’s third book in the First Aid series, titled Storm Singing and Other Tangled Tasks, is launching this Thursday, when the competition lunches (here).

The competition runs until September 23. The winner will receive signed copies of all the books in the series and a visit from Don to their school class.
