Scottish Government communications head to join BIG

THE head of communications at the Scottish Government is to join the Glasgow-based PR agency, The BIG Partnership.

Andrew Baird is expected to leave his current post within the next four-to-six weeks. He is joining BIG’s Edinburgh office, as a director.

Says a BIG media release: “[Andrew] has been head of communications at the Scottish Government since 2010 and was previously head of news. With a background in government communications since 1987, he led the devolution communications team in 1997 and became the first official spokesperson for the First Minister in 2001.”

The release quotes BIG co-founder, Neil Gibson, as saying: “Andrew is one of Scotland’s most respected and experienced communications professionals and his appointment will augment our strategy development and issues management capability. He’ll also work closely with the head of our Edinburgh office, Nicki Sturzaker, to grow our business in the capital.”

According to trade magazine, PR Week, BIG is the UK’s largest PR and digital media agency outside London. Earlier this month, it announced it had expanded into England, following the opening of an office in Liverpool.

The firm was founded twelve years ago, employs 95 staff across its five offices and has a 300-strong client base.
