Call goes out to PR professionals to take part in twitter-based ‘advice day’

SCOTLAND’S PR professionals are being asked to set aside a few minutes of their day on Tuesday, to submit a single piece of advice, via twitter, to help PR students with their studies and career planning.

The invitation comes from a fourth-year student at Queen Margaret University, near Edinburgh.

Says Kenny Murray, who is studying PR and marketing: “The idea is to bring together the professionals – the agencies and individual practitioners – and students together during the course of one day, to spark conversations. Not every student has the confidence to directly contact an agency, if they have a question. And not every student who has tried will have received a response.”

The idea has already prompted a pledge from a New York agency to post a tweet, and another from Canada. Several Scots PR practitioners have also said they will take part.

PR professionals should post their advice on their own twitter account and follow it with the hashtag, #tweetpr.

Individual conversations might then be sparked via the reply button that accompanies each tweet.

The ‘day’ officially starts at 1200 (to accommodate submissions from North America) and when it is done, Kenny plans to order the tweets as ‘a story’, using the Storify online tool.
