Media Podcasts: Marketing over Coffee

MARKETING over Coffee is a weekly podcast presented, from the USA, by Jon Wall and Christopher Penn, who include CBS Evening News, The Associated Press, The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times among their credits.

Last week’s episode comprised a single interview – with Ryan Holiday – on the concept of ‘growth hacker marketing‘, the low-cost marketing technique that’s more about web analytics and content marketing than ‘traditional’ marketing, such as TV advertising, to promote a product or service.

Holiday is author of Growth Hacker Marketing and Trust Me, I’m Lying: Confessions of a Media Manipulator.

And in this interview with Jon Wall, among the things Holiday talks about is how some billion-dollar brands have reached where they are without using traditional marketing.

The ‘growth hacking marketing’ mentality, he says, often comes direct from the actual creators of the product or service. In other words, everyone involved in a product or service does the marketing, as opposed to a separate professional hired specifically for the purpose.

Something more akin to the real-life experience of setting up a business from new.
