Magazine competition launched for schools

SCHOOL pupils are being invited to enter a competition recognising the best in school magazines. It has been set up by the Periodical Publishers Association in Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Executive’s Determined to Succeed education division.

The competition will be open to all state secondary schools in Scotland and will aim to encourage school-leavers to consider the magazine industry as a career choice, increase literacy skills in Scottish schools, encourage pupils to develop commercial and business skills, promote interaction between departments within schools such as Art & Design, Business Studies and IT in the production of a magazine, and provide short-listed schools with publishing mentors drawn from members of PPA Scotland, who would give guidance on best-practice in design, production and general business awareness.

The deadline is November 30.
