Flying Scotsman set for release

THE Scottish movie that opened this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival finally looks set to be shown in cinemas.

The worldwide distributions rights for The Flying Scotsman – about record-breaking Scottish cyclist, Graeme Obree – have finally been taken up, by MGM.

However, a planned release date of the 29th, in the USA, has been postponed, to a date still to be decided.

Similarly, no release date has yet been set for an UK release.

Nevertheless, a distribution deal will be welcomed by everyone involved in the film, including the crew – some of whom were not fully paid during its making. Indeed, money troubles almost resulted in the film’s screening at the Edinburgh film festival being disrupted by a protest.

Says an MGM statement: “The film was recently lauded by participants at the American Film Market in Santa Monica.”

The distribution rights were sold by London-based ContentFilm International.

The film is directed by Douglas Mackinnon and stars Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Boyd.
