Double triumph for football newspaper publishers

HIBERNIAN FC’s 5-1 CIS Insurance Cup win yesterday over Kilmarnock was preceded by the publication of a dedicated newspaper – produced by the company behind a best-selling weekly newspaper aimed at fans of city rivals, Hearts.

And on Friday, ‘Planet Hearts’ celebrated its first birthday with a bumper issue, just as its publishers, Planet Ink Ltd, were also producing a 64-page one-off newspaper to mark Hibs’ cup final appearance.

Since its launch, Planet Hearts has sold an estimated 210,000 copies, with its accompanying website enjoying more than 1,200,000 page hits.

Planet Ink Ltd was launched by ex Scottish Mirror executive, Shaun Milne, and Gerry Cassidy, former assistant features editor at the Daily Record.
