Advertising hopefuls pass with flying colours

ALMOST 90 per cent of advertising industry hopefuls have passed a foundation exam set by trade body, the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, which included Edinburgh and Glasgow among its seven UK-wide examination centres.

87 per cent – or 608 candidates who entered the IPA Foundation Certificate – were to prove successful, at centres in Belfast, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guernsey, London and Manchester.

The Certificate, part of the IPA’s continuous professional development programme, is designed for individuals with less than a year’s experience in the industry.

The online learning programme aims to give students a thorough grounding in the process of brand communications industry, and the knowledge which will help their careers progress. Topics cover marketing, client service, research and evaluation, communications strategy, ideas and execution.

The IPA is the industry body and professional institute for UK advertising, media and marketing communications agencies. It was established in 1917 as a servicing body and to negotiate on behalf of its members with media bodies, government departments and unions.

Its 258 corporate members represent the major part of the advertising agency business.
