A CHANCE to see the work of some of Scotland’s best, new filmmakers is taking place tomorrow and next week, with a screening of the award-winning, feature-length film, ‘Night People’ – made and set in Edinburgh – among the highlights.
Scottish film network, FilmLive, is hosting what it hopes will be “the filmmaking event of the year” – a festival of independent film – at the Leith Festival, which launches today in the capital.
Says FilmLive founder, Ben McNeill: “The FilmLive project was set up to encourage filmmaking in Scotland and prove that we have great potential as a nation for creating a thriving film industry. Our first ever film festival heralds an exciting new partnership with Leith Festival which is great news for Scotland’s film network.”
Tomorrow showcases “true guerrilla style filmmaking, with what can be achieved with drive and focused creative passion on a no-to-low budget”.
Meanwhile, a week tomorrow involves various ‘seasoned’ filmmakers discussing their experiences of working in the Scottish film industry.
The festival will involve not one but two world premieres – ‘Jesus Versus the Messiah’, by writer/director, Alan Ronald, and ‘Lost Weekend’, by Dave Rattray – both made on low budgets. The Night People – by Adrian Mead and Clare Kerr – was shot on High Definition during February and March two years ago.
