Polish language column for Fife paper

APPARENTLY, the Polish community in Fife numbers some 10,000 – a sizeable figure that has got one local newspaper launching a regular Polish language column.

The Fife Free Press, which mainly serves Kirkcaldy, has set up the column on behalf of a local Polish community group, MOST. It follows a couple of reporters doing an article about the group and realising there was scope for much more.

A weekly, published by Scotsman owners, Johnston Press, the Fife Free Press enjoys a circulation of around 19,000.

Says editor, Allan Crow: “The response to the column has been superb and other Johnston Press titles are now looking at similar initiatives in their areas.”

The column appears in both Polish and English and is written by a locally-based Polish journalist, Marta Weychan, on behalf of MOST.

Throughout Kirkcaldy, the initiative is being supported by posters which, in Polish, declare: ‘Read All About It’.
