Crisis experts to talk about managing PR

TWO leading crisis management specialists are to share their thoughts with the Scottish PR industry on, among other things, the recent terror attack on Glasgow airport.

The Scottish Executive’s Jason Wassell and Neil Trotter will be speaking about their experience of threats to national security at an event being organised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in Edinburgh next Wednesday.

Says the CIPR: “Wassell, communications strategist from the Civil Contingencies Unit at the Scottish Executive, will speak about the Scottish Executive’s approach to crises and the lessons learned from major incidents. He will also talk about the issues surrounding communication planning, including the development of the 24-hour media environment and the growing influence of the ‘citizen journalist’.”

Continues the CIPR: “Having worked on animal health scares including the avian influenza outbreak at Cellardyke, Fife, Neil Trotter, communication manager of Finance and Sustainable Growth at the Scottish Executive, will discuss the practicalities of dealing with crisis communication and how to manage a team on a daily basis. Trotter will also speak about his experience in advising Ministers on major incidents in sectors such as nuclear energy, transport and industry.”
