Foreign film growing in popularity

WE are apparently liking, more and more, foreign movies.

Says the UK Film Council, compared to just seven foreign films taking more than one million pounds at the UK box office, between 2000 and 2003, the figure since then has shot up to 33, with the French films, Tell No One and La Vie en Rose, the latest to join the roll call.

Helping increase their exposure is Lottery funding – managed by the UK Film Council – to support the distribution of foreign language and specialised films.

Throughout the whole of the 1990s, only nine films grossed more than one million pounds at the UK box office.
