David Taylor, now general secretary at European football governing body, Uefa, and based in Switzerland, was taking part in a webchat on Wednesday.

To the question, “How is your experience at the Scottish FA different to your first few months at UEFA?”, replied: “Many of the issues that you have to deal with are actually the same sort of issues. The difference is the daily media spotlight – you are in the glare in Scotland.

“A wonderful country, but it is a challenge to live with and work with a very demanding media. I should also state, though, that the office in Nyon does have a better view than the one I had at the Scottish Football Association.”
