SFA Chief Seeks to Calm ‘Misquoted’ Claim

Scottish Football Association chief executive, Gordon Smith, appears to be backing down in his claim that the Daily Record misquoted him on complaints of bias among referees towards Scottish Premier League clubs.

As Smith flew out to Geneva yesterday, he said: “I wasn’t misquoted – it was more of a misunderstanding. I was trying to be light-hearted.”

The new row between the former BBC Scotland soccer pundit and the media had blown up on Tuesday following comments to journalists on Monday.

And this led to a furious reaction from Dundee United manager, Craig Levein, on reading that Smith had alleged he had received letters from every single SPL club complaining
