Suttie steps up campaign to banish plastic bags

RADIO DJ, Heather Suttie, is continuing her campaign to rid the country of plastic bags – many of which then become litter – by organising a fundraising event later this month.

The XFM Scotland presenter is hosting a shopping day – comprising stalls and refreshments, including complimentary champagne – at Glasgow’s Oran Mor, taking place a fortnight on Saturday. She has roped in some of her music and acting pals – including Shantha Roberts and Alison Mackenzie – to do some of the selling.

The event follows hard on the heels of a handful of appearances by Suttie in the media, where she has talked about her Say No To Plastic campaign, including on the Today programme on BBC Radio Four. Her website, www.saynotoplastic.co.uk, has received over 1,200 signatures to an online petition.

The shopping day is doubling up as a fundraiser for The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and children’s charity, NCH Scotland. The clothing on sale will be vintage, to encourage the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ message.
