Oh, dear. So, John Smeaton may not be as big a hero as first thought, if one at all.
But while the Sunday Mail pressed on, unperturbed by allegations last week that Smeaton did not fight off the terrorist attack at Glasgow airport last year, in quite the courageous way the legend has since made out, other newspapers have been less sympathetic.
The Sunday Mail, of course, has a ceremony on Thursday, the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards, to prepare for, which allowed for it to bracket Smeaton with nine year-old Nathan Thomson, who saved his mum from a knife attack. ‘Our Littlest Hero Meets John Smeaton at Young Scots Ceremony’.
Meanwhile, over at the Scottish Sun, which has Smeaton as a columnist, its leader column yesterday commented: “How sad it is, then, that one of our country’s proudest moments
