Scottish cycling movie flies off with top prize

A FEATURE-length movie about Scottish cyclist, Graeme Obree, has won the top prize at a film festival in Russia dedicated to sports.

The Flying Scotsman – directed by Scot, Douglas Mackinnon – has taken the Grand Prix prize at the Sixth Russian International Festival of Sport Films, Krasnogorski – which has taken place in Moscow.

Some 70 films from 14 countries competed for the Grand Prix, a Special Prize and Best Debut, Best Direction, Best Documentary and Best Feature Film titles.

Mackinnon – who directed the Dr Who two-part episode that will conclude on Saturday on BBC1 – is currently in Budapest, directing the first two episodes of the new series of Robin Hood, for BBC1.
