Talks being held on newspaper closures fear

THE National Union of Journalists is today meeting with the publishers of The Scotsman newspaper, Johnston Press, to discuss concerns that three of its Scottish weekly titles face closure – with resulting redundancies.

The move follows last week’s news that, at Scotsman Publications itself, an estimated 30 posts have been earmarked for closure – mostly in ‘back office’ functions, such as ad sales.

But allmediascotland understands it might extend to an editorial administrator at the Edinburgh Evening News, and another editorial position.

Plus various, casual subbing and picture desk shifts being cut back.
