BBC facing industrial action call over Glasgow redundancy threat

THE whole of the BBC could be hit by industrial action following a meeting held yesterday by members of the National Union of Journalists at the network’s Scottish HQ in Glasgow.

The members have instructed the NUJ’s Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran, to set in motion a meeting of all NUJ reps at BBC offices throughout the UK. They are angered that one of their colleagues at BBC Scotland – an assistant producer – is facing compulsory redundancy.

The NUJ recently conducted a health and safety survey at BBC Scotland and say they encountered high levels of stress among the workforce.

Says Holleran: “I have been asked to contact the [NUJ’s] Broadcasting Organiser to arrange a meeting of BBC FoCs and MoCs [Fathers and Mothers of Chapels], with a view to calling industrial action across the whole of the BBC.”
