Reporting of poverty: topic of Glasgow workshop

HOW poverty is reported is to be the subject of a panel discussion in Glasgow, with the editor of The Big Issue in Scotland magazine among the speakers.

Paul McNamee is to be joined by, among others, Save the Children’s Douglas Hamilton, at the event, taking place on the fourth of next month, and being hosted by the Media Trust – which encourages media professionals to assist charities – the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Society of Editors.

Promised at the event are details of new research – from Glasgow Caledonian University – on media coverage of UK poverty and its impact on public opinion.

Also, on the day, are workshops considering how effective images and case histories are in telling a story about poverty, and what, if any, implications should poverty have on journalists’ training and development.
