Don’t mess with the hacks

THE Daily Record and The Scottish Sun have been been having fun reporting a brawl during a football match on Sunday between MSPs and journalists – with the story running as an exclusive in the Record and yesterday’s Sun noting that journalist, Chick Young, had been sent a bunch of flowers, by way of an apology, for what appears to have been a series of horror tackles from the politicians.

In fact, the contest got so ‘tasty’, it had to be abandoned.

But it just goes to show how relaxed the hacks were about it. They clearly didn’t think it was worth mentioning, even to their own newspaper bosses.

Among the hacks are known fans of allmediascotland and they didn’t contact us.

And, as the Record pointed out – in its Wednesday exclusive, three days after the event – one of its own reporters had taken part in the match.

P.S. Last night, a five-a-side team from the Scottish Football Writers’ Association finished runners-up in an inaugural tournament run by Scottish Premier League sponsors, the Clydesdale Bank.

The 14-team competition – comprising mostly the bank’s corporate customers – ended with the hacks losing 5-0 in the final.

But not before the News of the World’s Graeme Bryce had to battle through the pain barrier, with a shoulder injury.
