A SCHEME providing free film screenings to children and young people kicks off this week in Scotland, as part of an UK-wide film education initiative that is expected to end with some 320,000 children and young people having taken part.
The 13th National Schools Film Week has already been staged in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
When the Scottish element is done, some 2,000 screenings will have been staged for children and young people, free of charge, in over 500 locations across the UK.
The formal Scottish launch is on Wednesday, at the Glasgow Film Theatre. Among speakers attending the event will be Scott Donaldson, from Scottish Screen; Andy Dougan, a lecturer in digital film and television at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama; and Nick Varley of Glasgow-based ‘classic and back catalogue’ film distributors, Park Circus.
But the event kicks off today. For instance, Thirty-Nine Steps is being screened tomorrow, at the Cameo cinema, in Edinburgh, to be followed by a marketing masterclass by Park Circus’s John Letham.
