NUJ Life Memberships for Kidd and Urquhart

TWO Scottish newspaper legends have been honoured with life membership of the National Union of Journalists.

Colleagues, past and present, travelled from all over Scotland for the double presentation to Ted Kidd and Frank Urquhart in Aberdeen on Friday night.

Ted joined the NUJ in 1963 when he moved from DC Thomsons to the Sunday Mail and was later the Daily Record’s Aberdeen bureau chief.

Now 72, he still files council copy for radio and TV and is still an active union member as welfare officer for the Grampian branch.

Frank, or the bold ‘FU’, as he is better known, is The Scotsman’s north-east district man.

He joined the NUJ in 1966 when he went to Aberdeen Journals, straight from school.

His career has taken him him to the Edinburgh Evening News, the Scottish Daily Express, the Aberdeen Evening Express, before joining The Scotsman 21 years ago.
