Daily Mirror’s Scottish office to reduce to single reporter

THE four staff posts that currently constitute the Scottish office of the Daily Mirror are to be axed, to be replaced by a single, ‘district reporter’ post.

Publishers, Trinity Mirror, yesterday revealed that a total of eleven proposed redundancies are being discussed with staff, across the UK, and their representative body – the British Association of Journalists.

Said a statement, the move is “part of the ongoing review of the Daily Mirror’s editorial structure”.

The statement continued: “We are now in a period of consultation with our employees; however, we will continue to try to avoid compulsory redundancies where possible by seeking volunteers and through redeployment.”

Affected are reporters Ron Moore, Maggie Barry and Mark Smith and sports writer, Iain Campbell. It’s understood the voluntary redundancy terms being offered are ‘three months, plus a week for every year worked’.

Three years ago, the Scottish Daily Mirror boasted up to 30 staff, including its last editor, Mike Graham.

There is no word about any change, if any, for sister title, the Scottish Sunday Mirror.
