Parallel lines mark out match reports

FOOTBALL may be a ‘funny old game’ and, sometimes, so too is its reporting… if the following ‘inspiration versus perspiration’ perspectives from Saturday’s match between Dunfermline Athletic and Morton are anything to go by.

In yesterday’s Scottish News of the World, the goalscorer of the winning goal – Morton’s Erik Paartalu – put his side’s recent four wins out of five games down to nothing more spectacular than hard work.

“We have turned the corner and players just dug deep and worked hard at training; that is all you can do,” he is quoted.

But Spike prefers the Sunday Mail’s ‘top line’: the influence of veteran striker, James Grady.

Again, Paartalu is quoted: “James has helped because you need these characters in the team to boost morale and get a reaction out of people. That’s what James has done. He is great to have around the dressing room with his experience.”
