Network screening for Scottish history series

AFTER proving a big ratings winner in Scotland, a TV series about the history of Scotland is to be broadcast UK-wide.

With audiences in excess of 500,000 for its first screening on BBC One Scotland, and a further 200,000 for the repeat BBC Two Scotland showings, A History of Scotland is to be shown on network BBC Two at 8pm from the third of next month.

The first half of the ten-part series has just come to an end.

Says executive producer, Neil McDonald: “The reaction to the series has been tremendous. Over and above the viewing figures – which roughly translate into one in four Scots, watching TV at the time of the first screenings, tuning into A History of Scotland – the website has been getting more than 70,000 hits week on week.”

The second half of the series, which will take the story on from the Union of the Crowns to the modern-day, goes into production early next year and will be shown in Scotland late next year.
