Glasgow Caledonian University launches first of journalism conference series

THE managing editor of the Herald group of newspapers – comprising The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times – is one of the main speakers at a conference looking at ‘contemporary journalism practice across the media’, taking place in Glasgow next month.

Tom Thomson, a former managing editor at Reuters, is one of a number of keynote speakers at the event, which is being organised by Glasgow Caledonian University.

The conference – taking place on the 7th and 8th – is being billed as the first of “a series of biennial conferences which will focus on aspects of contemporary journalism practice across the media”.

Specifically, this conference is titled ‘Centres and peripheries: metropolitan and non-metropolitan journalism’ and also among the speakers is Professor Christopher Waddell, who teaches Journalism at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, and was formerly national editor of the ‘Globe and Mail’ and CBC’s parliamentary bureau chief in Ottawa.
