23 feature-length world premieres lined up for Edinburgh film fest

ONE hundred and thirty-five feature-length films, from 33 countries, 23 of which will be receiving their world premiere, comprise the core of this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, which yesterday unveiled its programme.

As previously reported on allmediascotland.com, a movie by Sam Mendes – Away We Go – opens the festival, which begins on the 17th of next month. The festival ends on June 28 with Max Meyer’s Adam.

Among those scheduled to appear for in-depth In Person interviews are the Oscar-nominated director of The Wrestler, Darren Aronofsky; Local Hero director, Bill Forsyth; award-winning actress, Brenda Blethyn; and veteran Hollywood director, Joe Dante.

Director, Roger Corman, also makes an onstage appearance to accompany a retrospective of his work.

Also being celebrated is the work of Scottish duo, writer Peter McDougall and director John Mackenzie,

EIFF first started out as a documentary festival, and that tradition continues with more than 20 non-fiction features, including the world premiere of No Greater Love by Michael Whyte, and Garapa by Jose Padilha, the director of Elite Squad.

Tickets for all films and events go on sale at midday tomorrow.
