Screenwriters caught up in rooftop drama

A NETWORKING group for screenwriters found themselves having to quickly reconvene to a differrent venue on Monday evening – because of a man throwing debris at passers-by from the top of the building he was threatening to jump off.

The drama forced the Glasgow meeting of Scottish Screenwriters to move from the Centre for Contemporary Arts – at 350 Sauchiehall Street – to the nearby GFT.

The man, 50 feet up, was standing on the roof of a modern office building next door to the CCA and appeared to be pulling pieces of tile from the roof and throwing them into the street. The obvious danger to pedestrians and himself caused the emergency services to close the street down to all traffic for over 30 minutes.

The group provides opportunities for screenwriters in Glasgow and Edinburgh to network, develop ideas and workshop scripts. The man was finally persuaded to come down from his precarious position.
