Politics popularity under scrutiny

SCOTTISH politics journalists – Alan Cochrane, Douglas Fraser, Bernard Ponsonby and Brian Taylor – are to consider why interest in politics among the general public seems to be at an all-time low, despite arguably the most comprehensive and expert politics coverage ever.

The quartet are to appear at a Royal Television Society (Scotland) event at Glasgow University later this month, ‘Politics on The Box: Am I Bovvered?!’.

Asks the pre-publicity: “Today’s political journalists are brilliant operators, with superb contacts, delivering a succession of inside stories. But do the viewers really want to engage with politics, or are we now in an age in which celebrity, even in politics, matters more than policy?”
