THE National Union of Journalists in Scotland is hoping to meet senior management at the Daily Record newspaper, either today or tomorrow, to clarify how it intends to staff its proposed new evening title.
A number of existing staff at the Record are understood to have been asked, in writing, to consider doing overtime on the new paper, which has yet to be given a formal launch date.
Among the questions the NUJ’s Scottish Organiser, Paul Holleran, will be asking is whether an overtime shift will be paid at time-and-a-half, plus what the impact will be on people’s performance should they do a shift on the evening paper followed immediately by a shift on the next day’s Record.
A meeting of the NUJ chapel at the Daily Record on the issue is expected sometime this week.
