Blue chips left to computer chips

FORMER  Bank of Scotland PR person and now her own boss, Penny Haywood, thinks she has seen the future and it looks… well, maybe financial journalists should be taking note.

Browsing a specialist technology website, the East Lothian-based owner of PHPR came across the tale of the computers that can write, on their own, reports of how companies are faring.

Apparently, it’s all about databases, and fancy programming, which – in robot-like fashion – can take the latest figures from, for instance, the New York Stock Exchange, and churn out new analysis, with historic information factored in. Seemingly, all in the blink of an eye.

The major financial newswire behind the development is quoted, saying: “This means we can free up reporters so they have more time to think.”
