Stats reveal doubling of out-of-work journalists

THE number of journalists out of work and applying for dole money has more than doubled during the last 18 months, according to figures released by the Conservative political party.

Say the Tories, there were 50 ‘journalists, newspaper and periodical editors’ claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance on March 1 last year, but 105 on November 1 this year – representing a rise of 114 per cent.

The figures are part of an overall analysis of the professions and Jobseeker’s Allowance, with ‘solicitors, lawyers, judges and coroners’ topping the percentage increase ‘league table’ – at well over 1,000 per cent, from ten people to 130.
