Former Evening Times journalist dies

THE funeral of a former Evening Times journalist has been set for Monday.

Brian Sykes died at the age of 70 and his career included spells at the Daily Mail and Daily Express. He also worked in Africa.

His funeral is on Monday at 3.30pm at Daldowie Crematorium, Glasgow, and expected among the mourners will be members of the National Union of Journalists. He was a NUJ Father of Chapel at the Evening Times, which he joined in 1976, as sub-editor before going on to become a news reporter, property columnist and business editor.

He took early retirement 16 years ago. He died on Sunday.

His family have requested no flowers. Donations to Marie Curie Centre, Fairmilehead, Frogstone Road West, Edinburgh.
